Sports Portfolio - Michael Giltz

This is a portfolio of some of Michael Giltz’s features, profiles and opinion pieces on sports. Giltz's family has deep roots in tennis -- his mother and brother were both top officials in the game, with his mother one of the rare umpires in the Seventies to work the entire Grand Slam, as well as running the top junior tournament, the Orange Bowl, in South Florida. Giltz has done everything from ballboy at tennis tournaments (giving his first TV interview to then-USA Network's Mary Carillo on how to be a ball kid) and playing -- and losing -- regularly to Chris Evert's little sister, Claire. He's an avid baseball fan, with season tickets in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium. Giltz also follows everything from NASCAR and bull riding to Olympic events like swimming, gymnastics and wrestling. He's appeared on radio sports shows discussing sports as well as the countless movies, TV shows and books about them.
